Rules of H.O.R.S.E. Poker games

Rules of H.O.R.S.E. Poker games

Game rotates from the poker games of Texas Hold ‘Em, Omaha, Razz, Seven Card Stud and Stud Eight or Better. These rules are outlined in the following posts.

Rules for Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo

Rules for Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo
Also Known As: Seven Stud High Low, Seven Stud 8 or Better

Objective:
Each player has to come up with the best possible hands using the seven cards (three down, four faced up). Each player could try to create a low hand and a high hand in his set of cards. Ace can be considered as the lowest card in the game and at the same time the highest card in the game.

Start:
Before players start the game, players have to place antes in the pot

3rd Street/First Round
At the start of the round, each player will be given three cards. Two of the cards will be placed faced down and the third card will be the faced up. The third car that’s faced up is called the “door card.” To determine the first player, the player that has the lowest door card will start the game. If the value is the same, the order of suit will be used to determine who goes first. Once the player is determined, he or she could either “bring-in” or place a half the minimum bet or “complete” which refers to the full amount of the lowest limit. Players in this round could either raise the bet or fold their game.

4th Street
In the next round, each player will have another card faced up. The player that has the highest set of cards faced up can start the game. If there’s a tie, the player closest to the left side of the dealer goes first. The lowest bet will be the minimum limit of every game.

5th Street
Another faced-up card is distributed to every active player. The 5th street is the same with the 6th street except that the minimum bet will now be the highest limit of the game.

6th Street
Pretty much the same with the 5th street, the last faced-up cards is given to all players

7th street
Cards faced down will be distributed to each active player. There will be one last betting before the showdown will start all in the game.

Showdown
With your seven cards you can now show the highest possible cards to your opponent. The player that has the highest five card set, wins. At the same time, the person that has the lowest five-card set (based on 8 or better rules) could share the pot with the winner. It’s also possible to have a card-set that’s good in high or lo game. There are also people who opted to surrender in the game if they saw the cards before them are way stronger

Rules for Seven Card Stud

Rules for Seven Card Stud

Objective:
At the end of the game, each player will have seven cards three face-up and four face- down, a player has to come up with the best possible 5-card hand based on the poker rankings.

Start:
Before the hand starts, each player will have to place antes in the pot

3rd Street/First Round
At the start of the game, the players will receive three cards: two cards facing down and one card facing up (called the door card). The player who has the lowest door card will be the first player to act on the game. The player will have the choice either to “bring-in” the game (pay half of the low limit) or “complete” the bet (bet an equal amount to the low limit). If two players have the same low cards, the order of suit will have to be followed. Clockwise, each player will have to bet or fold.

4th Street
Each player will receive another card face up. To determine the first player who acts in the game, the player that has the highest combination of the card starts first. If there are two players that have the same set of cards, the player closest to the left of the dealer goes first. The minimum bet on this game is the lowest limit. An exception to this rule though is that when the first player in this round has a pair, the player will have the choice of doubling the minimum bet.

5th Street
Players will again receive a card face-up. The round will basically be the same with the 4th street but the minimum bet will now be the highest limit.

6th Street
This part is also the same with the 5th street, including the minimum bet (highest limit). This will be the last round of face-up cards.

7th Street
Each player will receive their cards face down. The minimum bet is still the highest limit. If the cards aren’t enough for all players, one card will be placed in the center of the table face up and will be treated as a community card.

Showdown:
Each player who is still playing will show their cards to determine who has the highest possible set of cards in that round. If two players have the same set of winning cards, the winnings are split between players. Some players who know they will lost that round sometimes just opted to “muck” or surrender their cards without revealing them.

Rules for Omaha Hi/Lo

Rules for Omaha Hi/Lo

Objective:
There are three ways of winning in Omaha Hi/Lo. First is to have the highest hand, second is to have the lowest hand and third is to win both the highest and the lowest hands at the same hand. In Omaha Hi/Low – only the hand that each card is an eight or lower qualifies for the low game

The game starts with each player are given 4 hole cards. These are their private cards and there’s no way they should show them to their opponents. On the other hand, there will be five cards that will be displayed in the table in the gradual manner. These are called the community card. In order for the player to win, the player should have the highest possible card using two of the four cards and combine them with three of the cards on the table. The player can also use the same set of hands to win the low category provided that the cards used are eight or lower.

Start of the Game:
Before the round starts, the blinds are first posted.

First Round of Betting:
Before the flop (revealing the three community cards) and after the blinds, the player receives their 4 hole cards. In this part of the game, the player can actually fold their cards if they found them not suitable for that round.

The Flop:
After everyone has made their initial bet or folded in the first round, the flop is then set up. For this flop, only three community cards are revealed. From the community cards, the players can then fold, or bet depending on their decision.

The Turn:
When everyone is finished with their decisions and there are still more than one player left in the round, another card is opened as community card. Each player will then decide to bet or to fold.

The River:
If there’s still more than one player left in the game, the last community card (or called the river) is revealed. After this round, when there’s still more than one player, the game goes into showdown.

Showdown
Each player will reveal their cards showing their highest set of cards. If a player has good “low” cards, against another player’s “high cards” they will split the winnings. If there are no low cards, the player with the high cards win.

Texas Limit Hold'em Poker Rules

Hold'em Poker Rules

The two players to the left of the dealer put out blind bets. The player directly to the dealer's left puts out the small blind while the player two to the dealer's left puts out the big blind.

Every player is dealt two cards, face down. These are called hole or pocket cards.

The action, or the first move, falls on the player to the left of the big blind. She can either call the bet, raise it, or fold. Betting continues around the table, clockwise.

After the betting is completed, three cards are dealt face up in the center of the table, which is referred to as the board. The first three cards in Texas Hold'em are called the flop. These cards are “community cards” meaning everyone can (and will) use them in combination with their own hole cards to make the best hand.

A fourth card is dealt face up onto the board. This is called fourth street or the turn card.

Another round of betting.

The final card is dealt face up. This card is also called fifth street or the river.

A final round of betting occurs. The remaining players show their cards and the person who can make the best five card hand by combining their pocket cards with the cards on the board wins.

Rules for Razz Poker

Razz Poker Rules

The objective of Razz poker is to make the lowest possible hand from the seven cards you are dealt. The cards are dealt just like in 7-card stud, except that an Ace is always low and straights and flushes have no effect on the value of your hand. The lowest hand in Razz poker is A-2-3-4-5, and this is called a wheel, a bicycle or a bike.

Razz is played with two to eight players, and is a fixed limit game. In a fixed limit game there is a set amount that can be bet by each player in each round.

The sequence of action in a hand of Razz poker is the following:
1. At the start of each hand, every player must ante a set amount. This is often about 1/5 of the low limit bet size.

2. Each player is dealt three cards; that is, two cards facing down, and one card facing up. This is known as 3rd street. The player with the highest card facing up must start the action, which is called the “bring-in” bet. The bring-in bet is a set amount, and is lower than the low limit bet size. The bring-in bettor has the option to raise the bring-in bet and make a bet that is equal to the low limit bet size. (Note: If two or more players have the highest ranked cards, the bring-in bet is determined by which player has the highest suit of that rank. The suit order is spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. Therefore, the King of spades would be the bring-in bet, when tied with another card that has a rank of King.)

3. Action proceeds clock-wise from the bring-in bettor. Each player can fold, call, or raise the bring-in bet. All bets are equal to the low limit bet size.

4. After this first round of betting, the players still in the hand get dealt another card face up. This is called 4th street, as each remaining player has four cards. The player with lowest hand showing acts first, and the action proceeds clock-wise. Each player has the choice to fold, call, or raise. All bets are equal to the low limit bet size.

5. After this round of betting, the players still in the hand get dealt another card face up. This is called 5th street, as each remaining player has five cards. The player with the lowest hand showing acts first, and the action proceeds clock-wise. Each player has the choice to fold, call, or raise. All bets are equal to the highest limit bet size, which is double the low limit bet size.

6. After this round of betting, the players still in the hand get dealt another card face up. This is called 6th street, since each remaining player has six cards. The player with the lowest hand showing acts first, and the action proceeds clock-wise. Each player has the choice to fold, call, or raise. All bets are equal to the highest limit bet size.

7. After this round of betting, the players still in the hand get dealt another card face down. This is called 7th street, since each remaining player has seven cards. The player with the lowest hand showing acts first, and the action proceeds clock-wise. Each player has the choice to fold, call, or raise. All bets are equal to the highest limit bet size.

8. The player with the lowest hand wins the pot.
